A wooden building set inspired by Eastern architecture, made for open-ended play, imagination, storytelling, and beautiful everyday homes
Launched by echowooda, Echoes of the East is a unique wooden building set inspired by traditional architecture and timeless folk tales from Asia. It is rooted in heritage, designed for the present, and open to endless play and reinterpretation that helps unleash creativity in your children.
Crafted from FSC-certified wood and finished with water-based coatings, preserving the warmth and texture of natural wood for confident everyday play.
Inspired by Eastern architecture and aesthetics, inviting children to encounter cultural forms through building, exploration, and imagination.
Rather than replicating traditional motifs, we reinterpret their essence through a contemporary design language with enduring aesthetic value.
Encourages free building, storytelling, and shared moments between children and adults through imaginative, open-ended play
Instead of replicating architecture piece by piece, we distilled its proportions, spatial order, and sense of balance into simplified wooden forms. With a focus on shape, material, negative space, and the quiet beauty of composition, we replace loud colours and decorative details with subtlety that stays longer in memory.
The value of the collection lies not in telling children what to build, but in giving them a world of possibilities. With simple geometric forms, children can create countless spatial compositions of their own. Designed as an open system, Echoes of the East can be endlessly rebuilt, rearranged, and reimagined as children grow - from early stacking and balancing to storytelling, spatial exploration, and imaginative play.
Every child enters the world of building differently. Some start with stacking. Some are ready to explore spaces. Some already want to create entire story worlds. That’s why we designed three progressive sets — so every family can begin at the level that feels right.
Begin with stacking
A 12-piece wooden building set inspired by the iconic form of the Chinese pagoda. Simple, elegant, and easy to approach, Lite offers an introduction to architectural play through stacking, balancing, and small-scale building. It is ideal for first builds, quick creations, and everyday moments of play.
From object to space
A 54-piece wooden building set inspired by The Butterfly Lovers, a classic Chinese tale often compared to Romeo and Juliet. Symbolizing love, longing, and freedom, the story brings emotional depth and cultural meaning into play.
Dream Garden is designed for building layered garden scenes and expressive architectural compositions, offering a rich and versatile set for open-ended building.
Build a richer world
A 74-piece wooden building set inspired by The Legend of the White Snake, one of China’s most beloved folktales. Closely associated with the Jiangnan region, the story evokes graceful bridges, pagodas, waterside architecture, and themes of love and transformation.
Designed for larger structures and more immersive building scenes, Watertown Master Set invites children to create expansive architectural worlds through open-ended play.
A toy should feel good in the hand, look good in the home, and be made with responsibility.
Echoes of the East is crafted from FSC-certified European beech wood, finished with water-based coatings, and carefully sanded for a smooth, warm tactile experience. Every piece is designed with rounded edges and a size suitable for little hands.
Detailed safety testing has been completed for major international standards, including EN71, ASTM F963, CPSIA, REACH, and related requirements.

Guided by the philosophy of natural growth, echowooda is a design-led children's brand that brings together natural materials, open-ended play, and refined aesthetic sensibility.
We create thoughtfully designed objects for children and families that invite building, imagination, storytelling, and meaningful time together.
echowooda started with a vision to create a more beautiful and meaningful kind of toy. The first concept sketch marked the official beginning of the project.
echowooda refined its designs, brought its first products into production, and officially entered the market with its first block sets. That same year, the brand received multiple international design awards including the Red Dot Design Award, Australian Good Design Award, European Product Design Award etc.
echowooda launched its Instagram to share with a wider international audience — and is now bringing Echoes of the East to overseas families through Kickstarter.
Our blocks are made from FSC® certified European beech wood, shaped from solid wood, finely sanded, and finished with a water-based coating.
They have passed SGS testing and meet major toy safety standards including EN71, ASTM F963, CPSIA, and REACH.
Choose based on your child’s current stage of play.
Little Pagoda is a simple starting point for stacking and early exploration.
Dream Garden is suited for children ready to build small spaces and scenes.
Ancient Town offers a richer world for storytelling, role play, and more complex building.
The three sets are not ranked by “better or higher level” — they offer different ways to enter the world of Echoes of the East.
Yes. The sets include simple building references, but they are not designed as one-answer model kits.
Children can start by stacking and copying simple forms, then gradually create their own buildings, landscapes, and stories. Parents can also join in by asking questions and building together.
Yes. All three sets share a consistent scale and visual language, so they can be freely combined.
Little Pagoda can become part of a larger Dream Garden or Ancient Town scene, while add-ons such as trees or mountains can enrich any set.
Wipe gently with a slightly damp cloth, then dry immediately.
Do not soak the blocks in water, expose them to strong sunlight for long periods, or store them in very humid environments. As a natural material, solid wood may show subtle changes over time, which is normal.
Open-ended play means there is no single correct way to build.
A block can become a tower, a bridge, a house, or part of a story. Children are free to stack, test, rebuild, and imagine in their own way.
They offer different kinds of play.
Many interlocking toys focus on precise assembly and completing a model. echowooda is closer to open-ended wooden construction: children can build quickly, take things apart, and create a different scene each time.
The solid wood also gives a warmer tactile experience, while the softer colors make the blocks feel natural in the home.
